Picture
Use a picture to create interest in a poem (or other work of literature).
In this example, we'll use William Blake's poem, The Tyger

First, ask your learners to share their knowledge about tigers:
- where do they live?
- what do they eat?
- why are they an endangered species?
- has anyone seen one in a zoo? or in the wild?
- what adjectives would you use to describe a tiger?

Now introduce the poem's first stanza:

Tyger Tyger, burning bright,
In the forests of the night;
What immortal hand or eye,
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?

Perhaps focus on the adjectives for some discussion: bright, immortal, fearful
