You can use images to develop the concepts of metaphor and symbol.
Put your learners into pairs or small groups.
​Ask them to discuss the image:
- where was it taken? 
- what does it show?
- how does the young woman feel?
- what could this picture symbolise?
- what metaphors can you form based on this image?
